Ironically, lack of nursing faculty would prohibit a positive growth in labor market and the need for new nurses to become available. However, a decrease supply of essential personnel, such as nurses, would be a critical stressor to our patients. In this case, prolonged nursing shortage might increase the operating and labor cost, the risk of adverse patient outcome, and decrease the quality of patient care.
Conclusively, the solution to overcoming the nurse shortage is to train more students in nursing by creating more nursing faculty. Hospitals with high patient to nurse ratio adversely impact patient mortality. The hope of breaking nursing shortage lies in the ability to train and retain the next generation to the profession.
