At the start of my nursing practice, I remember sitting down and thinking, what's next? Nursing school had been a rollercoaster and the thought of going back right away wasn't one of my first options. Nevertheless, I did have a sibling who had been nursing for 4 years. At the time I graduated she had already been enrolled for a year at Wayne State Nursing completing a Masters program. She encouraged me to get right to the next level of education because it was a decision she wished she had decided sooner after graduating. I saw the difference in her when she had started pursuing her advanced nursing education vs bedside days. It looked as if she finally found her ‘niche’ in nursing. I longed for that. In nursing school, every professor's determinant when asked about how they discovered their specific specialty, was always around first discovering and being comfortable and then finally gaining as much knowledge as you could so they could be the most competent in your designated field …show more content…
Nevertheless, rewarding days were also filled with frustration. On my day to day, leaving a successful shift was no longer about helping Ms. R find out why she had symptoms of weakness for the last 2 weeks or about helping administer medication to relieve Mr. K of an unknown allergy reaction. I slowly gained frustration from questions I couldn't answer. I had questions regarding the many issues that get swept under the rug daily such as patients with multiple visits to the emergency, concerns about safety discharge, the increased concern about the quality of care given due to increase acuity of patients, and many other concerns. These concerns have become a fundamental concern when I provide care. Hence, why I would like to pursue my Doctoral in Nursing practice. After seeing many cases I realize the implementation of interventions for these many concerns could only come from gaining advance
