“Nuts” is the response Gen. Anthony C. McAuliffe gave a to the Germans on December 22nd 1944, when they asked him to surrender his men and Bastogne, Belgium. Which was a key location for the war in Europe. He said this after hearing about the German’s request while still half-asleep, and generally meant “go to hell” when using the term.
In the movie, Patton is told to advance to Bastogne Belgium, which was a hundred miles away from his current location. On his way there a soldier runs up to him with a copy of Gen. Normandy
Normandy is a northern region in France which is famous for the major naval assault led by the Allies on June 6th, 1944, that was held on its beaches. It was led by the allied Generals: Eisenhower, Tedder, Montgomery, Leigh-Mallory, Ramsey, Dempsey, and Bradley. In the movie, Patton is told to act as a decoy and keep his forces in the UK while the Normandy invasion commences, due to the Nazi’s caution towards him. As shown in various scenes where they are looking into his background and reporting his movements. The Nazi’s thought that Patton was going to lead a second invasion, so they kept a bulk of their forces on the opposite side of the english channel. This led to an “easier” time for the soldiers on the beaches.
