Months after this horrifying event, Oarlee was unable to keep the memories of the murder out of her mind, especially when she faces her former boyfriend at court. At night, she would have terrible dreams of her friend dying repeatedly and would wake up screaming. She had difficulty walking back from school because the route that she would take was next to the site of the murder, so she had to take a longer route to go home. She felt as though she doesn't deserve a real future, and she ignores her closest friends as she believes they have every right to hate her and even fear her for the connection to her old boyfriend. She feels as though she deserves to be alone and rather be alone than hear constant reminders of how this is her fault that her friend is
