Obesity is an ongoing problem in not only America, but Mexico too. America used to be the most obese country in the world, but recently Mexico has overpassed them. According to the Olga Khazan (The Atlantic) this rise in obesity could be because Mexico is getting richer in money and resources. When countries get richer, one effect it has on the population is they get obese quickly, instead of starving. This is affecting adults and children, the kids are becoming obese and the adults are dying of heart disease.

The main crops grown in Mexico are vegetables such as; corn and onions and fruit such as; grapes and mango. The foods they produce the most of are corn, wheat, beans, and sorghum. There is some form of corn in almost every single food, so it is important to mass produce it. Foods that are high in carbohydrates usually have lots of calories, and make you gain more weight than other foods. The foods that are grown locally in Mexico are easier to access for Mexican food companies, so they are able to lower their prices because they don’t need to ship the crops from other countries. There are certain crops that Mexican farmers mass produce because they are in almost every food. A few examples of these crops are; sugarcane, corn, wheat and tomatoes. These crops are in abundance, making them easy to access for food companies. Mexican farmers can make money off of growing these crops because of supply and demand. People keep buying the foods these crops are in, so farmers can keep selling them to the food companies who produce those foods. Basically as long as companies keep buying crops from the farmers, the farmers can keep growing them. It’s almost a cycle, it starts with the farmers producing the crops, then the companies buy the foods because they need them for their products, and the consumer buys the product, allowing the farmers and food companies to stay in business. Companies that have cheaper prices for their foods, might appeal more to people who don’t have as much money as
