The Rocket Boys strife against society began when they were accused of a crime. The Rocket Boys experienced their first setback when they were held accountable for the forest fire. Although this stopped their progress, Homer and Quentin proved their innocence with the help of Miss.Riley who provided them with the correct insights on calculus, with the right knowledge they both found that the rocket was not the cause of the fire, and cleared their names. Throughout the film John Hickam became the story’s antagonist, Homer felt aloof from his father this was one of the reasons John didn’t support his idea of Rocket Science. The movie illustrated the external conflict between Homer and his Father, John being the antagonist didn't support his son’s career choice, which led him not to provide the necessary materials Homer needed in order to successfully launch a rocket.
