Keanna Kar Mrs. Howard English 7 22 March 2024 Odysseus vs Achilles! Odysseus is a Greek hero who faces many challenges with the sea monsters and the Sirens. When Odysseus is in the water, he has to face two challenges that leave him alone. The first is when he lands on the island of Calypso, who held him captive for a long time. When Calypso lets him go, she says,aid “be not sorrowful any more, Oodysseus. The time has come when thou mayst depart from my island. Come on in now. I will show how I can help thee in thy way." That is where his journey began. The second one is when he faces the Sirens and the sea monsters who ate his friends. They had to save him from the Sirens by tying him to the boat so he could not go toward them. Through all his hard challenges, Odysseus shows how brave and courageous he is.…show more content… Achilles is also forgiving and cares for Priam when he kills his son, Hector. He says, “Even for twelve days I will hold the battle back from the city.” Achilles also shows courage until his death in the battle when Paris kills him. When Menelaus is telling Telemachus the story of the battle, he tells him “Now Achilles was dead.” Achilles dies from Paris’ arrow because his mother did not put his whole body into the immortal water. This caused him to not be fully immortal, so Achilles dies from the arrow striking his heel. Odysseus shows that he is very smart and can even trick his own people.
