Oedipus the King took its audience through a rollercoaster of emotions. Two of the main emotions they feel are pity and fear. Now throughout this play there are many times where the emotion of pity takes center stage. Such as in scene three when Oedipus finds out that his father, Polybos was announced dead, but also that the messenger, who brought this news, was the one who gave Oedipus to Polybos. This gives off the emotion of pity towards Oedipus who had lost the only father he had know but also finding out that his whole life was a lie and now he might truly be the murderer of Laios.
