In Of Mice and Men hopes, dreams, and goals presented themselves multiple times throughout the story. The main goal was to have the little farm with the rabbits. In “How We Lose Hope and How To Get It Back” Wilner says “Hope is a crucial part of dealing with life's problems and maintaining resilience is the face of obstacles. Even a glimmer of hope that our situation will turnthen around can keep us going.” This shows that their dream of the little place was their way of dealing with life's problems. Their dream kept them hoping that things would turn around. Therefore if they didn't have their dream of having the little place then they might not have had something to live for or look froward to.

Of course Walter's main goal is to find Shawn but life gets in the way a little bit. In “How We Lose Hope and How To Get It Back” Wilner also said “If you or someone else is feeling apathetic and are tired of running the rat race of life you may be starting to lose hope. In order to open up new and fulfilling possibilities for your future, you may need to nurture hope.” Walter nurtures his hope by day dreaming and imaging this that could happen. If he didn't have his hope then he may not have found Shawn, and if he didn't find Shawn then he may not have found the true meaning of life that sometimes it's better to just be in the moment and not let work interfere with it.
