I believe that George Milton from the novel “Of Mice and Men” is a good person. Although some people may argue and try to claim that he’s bad, George had done nothing extremely terrible. He is a dedicated friend to Lennie and is nice to him, in the end, he save Lennie, and was never rude to anyone without good reason. Once you stack up the facts, there is no denying it. George Milton is proven to be a good person.
To start, George was a great friend to Lennie. In the 1930’s many people with disabilities like Lennie’s would’ve been sent to a “mental hospital” or house of horrors to put it simply. He would’ve been ignored and not taken care of. In the end Lennie would’ve gone crazy. But instead, George stuck with Lennie. On page 12, George apologizes for being mean to Lennie and tells him to stay when Lennie starts saying he’s going to leave. This occurs more than once in the book and each time George tells Lennie to stay. George always apologizes for his rude actions towards Lennie and some of his remarks come off as rude. He is never mean to someone without a reason. Right away you tell that George is considerably nice to others. This is proven on pages 35 and 36 when he immediately hits it off with Slim and Carlson. George doesn’t judge them and he welcomes them as friends. He even goes as far to tell Slim about Lennie, which you can tell he doesn’t do often. Yet again on pages 58 to 60, George shows another act of kindness. He invites Candy to join Lennie and his plan to purchase a farm. While some may think that he only does this for the money that Candy has, I say not. He thinks through it and doesn’t immediately say yes to Candy. He deliberates it before answering. George is kind to everyone that is kind back. And this isn’t a trait of a bad person, only a good
