The american dream can be interpreted or having a house, not having to work for others, being free, and having a family. George and Lennie tried to achieve the american dream. In the novel of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck, he expresses the hardship and struggle of achieving the “american dream”.
Detail Paragraph 1 “With us it ain’t like that. We got a future. We got someone to talk to that gives a damn about us. We don’t have to sit in no bar room blowin’ in our jack jus’ because we got no place to go.” (14) With this quote by John Steinbeck it shows how most people don’t have the determination to work hard and save, so you can obtain what you want. George is saying how they work hard and they save their money so they can achieve the american dream.

He ain’t a nice fella.” And because she had confided to him, she moved closer to lennie and sat beside him “Coulda been in the movies, an’ had nice clothes-all them nice clothes like they wear. An’ I coulda sat in them big hotels, an’ had pitchers took of me.” (89) Curly’s Wife’s american dream was to be famous, be in pictures, be in movies, have/wear fancy clothes like the actors wore, and have a big house. This quote tells the reader that Curley's wife took the easy way out and married a guy hoping that his success would carry her all the way.
CONCLUSION
In the novel Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck, expresses the hardship and struggles of achieving the american dream. Each of the characters in the book had a different struggle and a different idea of their american dream. Also some characters had different levels of sacrifices and what they gave to achieve their goal. After reading these paragraphs this display how quitting and giving up won’t help you accomplish your dream, but the people who work hard and never give up will accomplish what they dreamed
