In Response to: Of Miracles David Hume brought forth a couple interesting points in his article, “Of Miracles”. The first point that seemed important in the writing was the idea that experience is our only guide in reasoning concerning matters of fact. When I first read that it personally conflicted with my beliefs. Growing up in a time with so much recorded history allows us to learn of experiences that the teacher was not involved in. I don’t have enough reasonable doubt to assume that my teacher is trying to deceive me and if I take the information they are trying to teach me as fact I did, in fact, not learn from experience. It seems to me that meteorology cannot be known and that meteorologists merely make predictions, basically guesses based on whatever is happening in the atmosphere. In my point of view a meteorologist is no different than someone trying to predict the stock market. They do not really know anything but are just merely making predictions based off of prior experiences.
