The factor making trucking the primary mode of transportation in Okemos, MI is accessibility from the United States interstate highway system. We have a train station in East Lansing and also a few farms in the area with railway access. As far as air transportation, Lansing has an airport in which is utilized by UPS. On top of these commonly thought of modes of transportation, there is a pipeline that runs through my hometown. This is the Consumers Energy pipeline and carries natural gas. Although we see a small presence of rail, air and pipeline in Okemos, they do not compare to the prominence of trucking.
In Okemos, the main challenge facing trucking is the quality of infrastructure. Both roads and bridges are eroding, cracking and breaking down every day, and getting fixed at a slower rate. In Okemos we just finished redoing both of our main bridges. Before this happened many people were worried about the safety of transportation in my hometown. Another major challenge is potholes.
