Literary Analysis: character analysis
Okonkwo is a strong brave man. One of the most strongest warrior in umuofia. Everything changes as soon as he meets someone from a new culture. Okonkwo personality is anger because on how the white men talk bad about him. Also they didn't like how they disrespected him. Okonkwo get tired and tries to go to war but doesn’t. Okonkwo reaction to new culture of the white men goes not so well on how they speak to him.
Okonkwo personality made him look angry on how they talk bad about him, and his son. I feel like This made him get humiliated. (pg 146) “Your gods are not alive and cannot do you any harm.” Replied the white men. “They are pieces of wood and stones”. This probably got okonkwo mad because they talk bad about the gods that they worship. They are saying that because they have a different religion and have different gods. Another reason on how they disrespected him is by talking bad about his oldest son nwoye. (pg 197) “You told us with your own mouth that there was only 1 god. Now you talk about his son. He must have a wife then.” they say that he had a wife which they never said. When they finish talking about him okonkwo left to drink his palm wine. (Pg 146) “ all gods you named are not gods at all”. This means that the white men don't believe in the gods that the umuofia people believe in. It's disrespectful for okonkwo because that's what he believe in. Another one on how he reacts to new culture is at (pg 208) “ that man was one of the greatest men in umuofia and you drove him out. You drove him to kill himself. Now he will be buried like a dog”. This means that okonkwo reaction to new culture was bad because he didn't like how they changed the rules if the white man and how they change where he lived. He didn't like it so he took the easy way
