For my recreational activity, I chose to take part in Oktoberfest, an annual event which takes place every October in the Kitchener/Waterloo region to celebrate German culture. The Oktoberfest celebration I participated in was held at Chicopee Ski Hill in Kitchener, Ontario, one of the many Oktoberfest locations around the Kitchener/Waterloo region. The main reason I chose Oktoberfest as my recreation activity was because I turned nineteen this year, and I figured that it would be a fun, local event my two older sisters and I could participate in together. I had also heard lots of positive feedback from friends and family members who attended Oktoberfest in the past. People at Oktoberfest had many types of emotions, including being surprised or happy. For instance, people in the crowd at Oktoberfest were surprised when the traditional keg tapping took place because beer sprayed everywhere, but they were also laughing about it because everybody in the crowd got soaked together. Individuals affective responses at Oktoberfest included steady eye contact with each other, and they were also engaged in certain events within Oktoberfest such as the pumpkin crushing contest. Everybody seemed to make eye contact with each other when making conversation which is a good sign because it meant that everybody felt comfortable talking to each other. People also seemed to be very interested in the event outside where pumpkins were being thrown at targets on haystacks because everybody made loud noises when a bulls-eye was hit. There were many different languages being spoken at Oktoberfest.
