Do you think they should have took the uss constitution and preserved it once it was too old to serve . Did you know the U.S.S. Constitution was was nicknamed Old Ironsides . Also the U.S.S. Constitution had a copper hull to prevent wood rot that could damage the ship and sink it. Why do you think they needed the 6 ships that were being built in 1794 and why were they smaller than regular frigates.
In 1797 new ships were being built for the U.S navy because there were lots of pirates attacking ships and imprisoning sailors. So the United states built six that were small because they didn’t have a lot of money. The constitution had 22 cannons on each side and was about 175 feet long and 45 feet wide. Also the people that had their families robbed by pirates or killed. The people who disagreed and didn't want a navy were the people who lived in the south.They were usually farmers with not that much money trying to live and make their families lives better. They had no oceans and they don't have pirates trying to rob them and they said it's not our problem.
