A number of social norms have been broken over the past few years in regards to technology. Our advancement in technology has done wonders for our world and continues to affect us everyday. Being a young adult in the 21 century is a blessing and a curse when it comes to technology affecting the way we see and express love. I personally did not experience what dating was like 20 years ago, but from my research and credible sources, I can state for a fact that it is a completely different from the dating world of 2018 and some of these differences are not for the better.
Texting is one of the most crucial aspects of dating nowadays. Whether that is texting to ask on a date, texting your significant other all throughout the day, the mind games one will play while texting someone they like, and the list goes on. Texting does not even come close to a real physical encounter. All that is transferred in texting is words, which is only the very base of a conversation. A huge majority of conversation comes from body language and tone of voice, which is not communicated when merely texting. Yet, another big part of the 2018 dating world is texting your crush or significant other all throughout the day. It does not show personality or character and does not adequately portray emotion no matter how many GIFS or emojis one uses. It is in fact very common to text someone prior to going on a date with them over a course of a few days which is also ludacris. Sometimes you have hardly even met the person and by the time you meet them, you know facts on facts about their life without hearing it from their own mouth.
