If They Win Election
Forcing manual labour on inmates can transform the criminal by offering their work. The Ontario Tories’ Leader Tim Hudak come up this proposal in the votes of the Oct. 6 election. If they win the election, Ontario could be the first provine in Canada to earn their keep by doing work outside the prison. This is a considerable proposal. It might subvert current situation of inmates.
Work gives inmates more chance to contact the society. Most of time, the inmates live in the “ high walls and steel bars” during their term of imprisonment. They lack of opportunity to contact with outside world. Working outside provide the inmates more chance to see outside. Due to the most of inmates might find themselves with the society quickly derailed after released, they usually still need help when they are discharged from prison. People would like to see more useful people get into the society.
Inmates might get more working experience through their outside job. It will prevent prisoner to keep offending over and over again. Tim Hudak’s predecessor John Tory said: “ ... To try and get people who don’t even have Grade 12 out of prison and into a job, so they might stay on a straight path.” As he said, allowing the inmates to work outside will have a positive effect. Because some inmates have low level of experience, they are hardly find a job suitable. Giving inmates a job, it might be easy for inmates to find a job after their release from prison.
