Opal Buloni is a ten year old girl, who is the main character. When Opal moves to Naomi, Florida with her dad who is a preacher, she doesn’t know anybody and is quite lonely. Then one day, Opal meets a dog she decides to call Winn-Dixie because they met at the Winn-Dixie grocery store. With Winn-Dixie at her side Opal finds herself making more than a few friends. And with a little help from Winn-Dixie, Opal and her father realize that even though they have both been through hard times in their lives, they still have a lot to be thankful for.
