Renee Lalique (1860-1945) was one of the most influential designers working in the Art Nouveau style of decorative arts. Trained as a jeweller, he paved the way for making precious opal jewellery.
He sold designs to the great jewellery houses of the period, mainly Boucheron Cartier and Verver.
These were significant pieces. Laliques' peers went on to do the same, Henri Verver (1854-1942),
Lucien Gaillard, Georges Fouquet (1862-1957) all took their firms in a whole new direction using opals to produce jewels that were works of art that came alive through their mysterious light, transparence and play of colour, …show more content…
