What is an Operating system?
An operating system is the most important software that runs on a computer. It manages the computer's memory, processes, and all of its software and hardware. It also allows you to communicate with the computer without knowing how to speak the computer's language. Without an operating system, a computer is useless. Once the operating system has started up; it manages all of the software and hardware on the computer. Without the operating system and the CPU (central processing unit) the computer cannot function and the primary uses for the computer will not work as the operating system manages all the input output and process.
System Software: This is a program that manages and supports the computer resources and operations of a computer system. It also executes tasks such as processing data and information, controlling hardware components, and allows users to use application software. Also this is software that makes up a computers operating system and it includes files for system services, drivers for printers and other hardware, system preferences, and other configuration files. The system software when installed on your computer will enable you to update software. System software generates the user interface and allows the operating system to interact with the hardware.
Operating System: This is a program which runs programs on a computer and without an operating system, the computer will not run. It manages both software and hardware resources and performs basic tasks, such as recognising the input from the keyboard and then sending the output to the screen. Also the disk drivers and printers are controlled by the operating system which also stores files and directories on the disk. An operating system also helps prevent unauthorized access from other users into the computer system. It also allows you to run different programs at the same time by allowing programs to access the computers CPU, memory and storage. A user interacts with the operating system through a set of commands and without interaction; the operating system would be of no use.
Example of operating system: There are different types of operating systems, for example: Windows, UNIX, Mac, Linux and Android.
