Amerasians were the name given to children born with a Southeast Asian mother and an American father. These children were abandoned by their mothers incapable of raising them, leaving them in an orphanage or even the streets of Vietnam. With the determination to transport these infants to the United States for proper caring under the father’s authority or under a foster family, an organization called “Operation Babylift” was created by private adoption agencies and air force in the United States in order to do so.
