WWII has been raging for almost four years and has seen more than 5 million casualties. The German forces led by Adolf Hitler started the conflict in 1939 with the invasion of Poland and, sparked Great Britain and France to fight the German forces. In 1940, Most of central Europe including France, fell in a matter of months. later in 1941 the Germans new ally (Japan) destroys the U.S. fleet stationed in pearl Harbor. Hitler invades the Soviet Union later that year. In 1942 the U.S. strikes against Japan in the pacific and, the Soviet Union counter attacks the German’s in the Soviet Union. France has been under German rule for over three years and it can be the perfect spot for another front. The plan is codenamed Operation Overlord and the target is Normandy. If not for the planning, weapons, and the invasions luck the war would have lasted longer than it did, and millions more people would have died. May 2, 1944, D-day has been delayed to the first of June decided by Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt. This was due to high tide and belief that it would create ideal tides for the invasion.
