Seasons Seen: Ophiuchus is best seen in the Northern Hemisphere during summer or in the Southern Hemisphere during winter.
Myth: Ophiuchus was the Greek god of medicine. He was the son of Apollo, and was taught by a centaur. Because he was the god of medicine, he didn’t like so many people dying, so he learned how to make people immortal. The god of the underworld, Hades, thought that this would be dangerous, so he asked his brother Zeus to kill Ophiuchus. Zeus agreed that it was dangerous, but respected Ophiuchus and his want to help people. So Zeus killed Ophiuchus, but created a constellation to honor him.
