In the story, Louise had many opportunities to get away from her old life and actually leave and be independence. The first example was when she said “Free!Body and soul free!” she said that because since her husband has died she was left alone where she could be free and not trapped with someone like her husband.The second example of the ability to get away and starting fresh, in one part it says,” There stood, facing the open window…” When she looked through the open window which could symbolize that she has oppen opportunity right there for her now. for instance, “ Into she sank, pressed down by a physical exhaustion that haunted her body and seems to reach into her soul.” That quote shows us that when she sat down in her room she felt physically exhausting because from the relationship with her husband destroy her on the outside it might be from him abusing her, it could be that bad that he controlled over her that she could have mental problems on the inside because it did destroy her soul,the physical exhaustion was a lot then it reached to her soul. ( The emotions overcomes the bad things and that affects how women look weak. In fact, one of the paragraph in the story says “she did not stop to ask if it were or were not a monstrous joy that held her.” She finally realized that she was free from what she was trapped from and she got her head together. When a lover dies should be sad most of the time and be happy when you are thinking about the memories that you had together. But Louise did not do that she was happy that she did not think about anything else except her husband was dead and she has the opportunity to be free. She didn't stop also shows that she didn't stop to think what she did, to be joyful which i think is called “ugly happy” because you are like a “happy ugly monster.” the last example of how emotions can blind you so much that later you notice the difference.“What could love, the unsolved mystery, count for in the face of this possession of self-assertion which she suddenly recognized as the strongest impulse of her being.” The phrase shows that Louise is finally figuring what is more important on herself and her own life than men and love. She is realizing that men are the least important thing than someone’s own life,choices and freedom.She also discover that she love herself because love is an unsolved mystery but when it's in control of one person view then it will either she is proud and happy to
