Origen was born around 185 A.D. near Alexandria (Origen.) During this time the stability of the Roman Empire was threatened by barbarian invasions and Christian persecution (Moore Origen of Alexandria.) He was the oldest child of seven and was raised in a Christian home. He was well educated in the biblical studies. His father, Leonidas, who died a martyr, inspired Origen to have the same goal as himself (Origen.)
