When Welles was young, his mother died of hepatitis, leaving Orson in the midst of a battle for his custody by the two men in he life, "Dada" Bernstein and his father Dick Welles. The only consensus they could come to was to send him to boarding school and let him choose who he wants to be with after. He was sent to a boarding school called Todd. At this school he learns much of what he knows about the art of a play. This is where he got many of his important skills in life and also where he met a very important man in his life, Roger Hill.
Roger Hill was an influential person to Welles for many reasons. He was a key figure at Todd, and had an eye for Welles, thinking he had a lot of talent.
