First let’s go over Osama’s days before Al-Qaeda and how he founded the group. According to history.com Osama had a privileged upbringing and began to follow the radical pan-Islamist scholar Abdullah Azzam. In 1988, bin Laden created a new group, called al-Qaeda (“the base”) At first focused on symbolic acts of terrorism but that later changed when Bin Laden became furious when the royal family snubbed him. He then redirected his efforts to a military campaign. The group’s first attack was on a hotel that was housing American troops but only killed two Austrian tourists. According to Encyclopædia Britannica, Al-Qaeda trained tens of thousands of Muslims in paramilitary skills. Using this training Al-Qaeda made numerous attacks against the U.S including, the destruction of U.S embassies in multiple countries and a suicide bomb attack against an U.S warship.
