Although he was one of the shortest serving archbishops in one of the smallest countries, Oscar Romero made a lasting impression on the belligerent world that surrounded him. Once a quiet, passive figure in a warring nation, Romero decided to take a stand against the oppressive militia that terrorized El Salvador. Acting in accordance with liberation theology, Romero saw a need for change, and advocated for it alongside the people of El Salvador. He is remembered today for his courage, assertiveness, and willingness to change in order to make a difference.
