A 46-year-old African-American male came to our pharmacy looking for a recommendation to alleviate his cold symptoms. After greeting him and introducing myself as a UTCOP student pharmacist intern, I started interviewing him regarding his symptoms. I asked the patient, “ what symptoms did he have? and which ones bothered him the most"?
The patient’s was complaining from a “head cold” and had been unable to sleep comfortably for the past three nights due to a severe nasal congestion. He also had a medical history of hypertension. Because of his hypertension, he had been told to avoid the OTC medications.
