When a physicians suspects the cancer; a pelvic examination, sonogram and also a blood test known as CA-125 indicated where there is cancer present or not (Jasen). Research from American Cancer Society states, only twenty percent of early detection of ovarian cancer is found. The type of cancer can be classified according to the type of cells from which its starts. The Three most common types are: Surface Epithelium, Germ Cells, and Stromal Cells. Surface Epithelium are cells that cover the lining of the ovaries. There are several types epithelial tumors. These are the most common yet most dangerous of all ovarian cancer. It has been reported that nearly seventy percent of women who have epithelial ovarian cancer are not diagnosed until the disease is considered “advanced stage”. Thankfully, majority epithelial ovarian tumors are noncancerous. Germ Cells, are cells that are destined to form eggs. Majority of most germ cells tumors ate non-cancerous. Fortunately, ninety percent of patients with ovarian germ cells tumors can be cured and their fertility can be preserved! Lastly, the rarest form of ovarian cancer is Stromal Cells, which are cells that release hormones and connect different structures of the ovaries. This tumor is considered a low-grade cancer and have a seventy percentage of women presenting of growth limitation to one or both ovaries (nocc).
