Owen is the son of Stuart and Lynda Phillips. He is the grandson of Mr. Gary Phillips and the late Ann P. Phillips of Rocky Mount and Dr. and Mrs. David H. Dilks II of Glassboro, New Jersey. Owen is the sixth grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Phillips to earn the rank of Eagle from Troop 40 under the guidance of Scoutmaster Clifton Glover. Mr. Phillips’ two sons are also Eagle Scouts.
Owen began his scouting experience in 2006 with Cub Pack 628 at Englewood Presbyterian Church. After earning his Arrow of Light in 2011, he joined Troop 40. Owen earned 36 merit badges and currently serves as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. One of his most memorable experiences was attending the 49th annual Scoutmaster’s Council Camporee at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY with his troop.
For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project, Owen selected the Nashville Parks and Recreation Department as his project beneficiary. As a former Nashville Hornet football player, Owen decided to give back to the program by improving the player seating at the Hornets home field. He purchased, assembled and installed two sets of aluminum in-ground player’s benches at the JW Glover Memorial Park football field. Owen also built and installed six eastern bluebird nesting boxes at Glover Park and Stoney Creek Environmental Park in Nashville. He funded his project by selling Aunt Ruby’s Peanut products and Honey Baked Ham gift certificates. With the generous help
