P8 Describe the procedures used to record and report accidents, dangerous occurrences or near misses
What does RIDDOR stand for?
RIDDOR stands for the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995. If you are an employer, self-employed or in control of work premises, you are required under RIDDOR to report some work-related accidents, incident, diseases and dangerous occurrences that have happened in your business or workplace.

Near Miss
All incidents that not resulting in any serious injury but could have the potential to cause it. Example: If someone slips in a wet floor and recovers from the fall without having any serious injury.
Dangerous

The Accident Form should then, be passed back to the employer for him to complete the Accident report form. The form should be completed in as much detail as possible, a copy should be retained within the business and the original forwarded to the Health & Safety Advisor in a period of 24 hours. The Health & Safety Advisor will review the accident details, making reference where necessary to RIDDOR and initiate further investigations and contact the relevant Head of Department in order to work out which steps have to be taken to prevent an occurrence or near misses to happen again. Certain incidents will require to be pontificated immediately to the Health and Safety Executive. Other incidents will only require completion and dispatch of the Forms
