Under this category, viewers are told, “You have consumer power! You flex your muscle when you vote with your wallet to encourage a more animal-friendly world”. It encourages activists to purchase vegetarian restaurant gift cards, cookbooks, vegan chocolates, fancy vegan clothing, and cruelty-free toiletries from the PETA Mall to give to vegans and non-vegans alike. Another tab at the top of the homepage titled “Cruelty-Free Living” leads to a page that claims by only purchasing cruelty-free products, we can help save rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, rats, and other animals from being poisoned, blinded, and killed every year. To the left, the link “You Can Help” has a sub-tab labeled “Buy Cruelty-Free” that directs viewers to another one of PETA’s websites called www.caringconsumer.com. The tab “Get Active” on PETA’s homepage leads to PETA’s “Action Center” where visitors can learn how to educate others on animal rights, speak up for animals, give financial support, join PETA’s Activist Network, and buy cruelty-free products. Repeating some of the same discourse from 2006, the caption under the sub-heading titled “Buy” states, “Become a caring consumer…It’s as easy as swiping a credit card…Shop peta.org”. Under the “Make a Difference” subheading, there is a link to www.petakids.org, whose homepage headline is “Shop! Shop! Shop!” PETA’s “Get Active” webpage also lists a variety of ways activists can get involved with animal rights (“from quick, easy actions to bigger projects”), and “advice on how to be the best possible advocate”.
