Before PPACA was enacted insurers could discriminate against patients with pre-existing medical conditions. The discrimination usually was in the form of denying coverage, striking patients from staying on the coverage rolls, patients were charging higher premiums, patients who possess certain medical conditions were excluded. Also others were imposed lifetime dollar limits on essential benefits, and yearly spending caps were imposed the same way lifetime dollar limits on essential benefits were imposed.
The patients with the pre-existing condition were not allowed to participate in the medical insurance program due to an exorbitant cost or clear cut rejection of the application. Now patients with pre-existing conditions can avail the facility
