Sharon Tosi Lacey wrote the book Pacific Blitzkrieg World War II in the pacific, she was a graduate of the United States military academy at west point with a bachelors in engineering psychology. She continued her studies at Long Island University with a masters in education and finally achieved her PhD at Leeds University in history. With her background in the military she understands the hardships that accumulate while working in joint operations with other branches. She served all the way until she reached the rank of lieutenant colonel , as a major she served as a analyst/liaison, staff historian as a lieutenant colonel, WIAS (worldwide individual augmentation system) branch chief where she controlled more than 3000 army positions. An opportunity was seized by the Joint Staff planner for the Army’s desire to proceed through the Southwest Pacific as well as letting the Navy’s immediate action in the Central Pacific. Operation GALVANIC let MacArthur keep the 1st Marine division under him and to use the army division as an alternative unit in the Gilberts. The initial landing on the islands composed of a bombarded of Naval ordinance early in the morning followed by pilots conducting their strafing runs then amphibious crews landing at the beach heads. The Marines were used to seized the beaches and drive through the enemy, while the Army which serves as a longer term ground combat and to utilize all aspects of the combined arms. After this battle the best case scenarios were put into a “Combat Lesson”, which entail was a publication that was put out to the military to learn from their prior successes. A few concrete changes to policy was made by Nimitz one being that no less than one division would be used against enemy forces of that size, the second preparatory fire would last several days , and finally that training would be conducting on the same terrain as the battlefield.
