The director of “Palo Alto” is 27 year old Gia Coppola, this was her directorial debut.
Coppola comes from a line of well known filmmakers, her grandfather is Francis Ford Coppola and her aunt is Sofia Coppola, because of this Gia Coppola did not want any help with the film from her family, she wanted to establish herself as a filmmaker on her own. The dialog between characters is meaningful as well as comedic. The actors portray their characters really well, not one moment seems forced or over exaggerated. Despite there being no A-list stars in the film, Coppola made a good decision in picking her actors for most of them “Palo Alto” is their first acting gig.
