Growing up, I thought I lived in a perfect society but then I saw how technology controls our lives. Children today are now obese thanks to playing video games instead of going outside. When I see people on a busy COTA bus, no one socializes like before technological devices. Today it’s so easy for people to hide behind a screen to make people lives harder. It’s now to the point were people are committing suicide. I realize that Gary Turk’s assertions in Look-up are really true in life. I now see less and less children at the park after school. Seventy percent of obese youth has a higher risk to gain more heart problems. Due to children playing video games and not exercising forty-five percent of children are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. In a recent study, 205 people between the ages of 18-25 said twitter is more addicting than cigarettes. Researchers project that physical activity will decrease twelve percent by 2020 because of people using technology more and more. Using technology to communicate with others is an increasingly popular activity. While everyone is surfing the internet they could be out in the world meeting the love of their life. In a study in 2013, researchers saw with a use of the internet also was associated with depression. Parents who use devices as a means of escaping awkward situations are compromising their children’s ability to cope in the future. Some parents are the blame for their children’s poor social skills.
