Pat Allen book review Art exists in all aspects of our daily life. People always use arts to express their feeling and thinking. Therefore, art comes from life but it has deeper meaning than life. A book “Art is a way of knowing,” which is written by Pat Allen who told us art is closely related to our daily life. Through reading her book, I realized the process of art is also important, because during the process, we will think and judge. The space of our thought will be expand by art widely and unlimitedly. What’s more, Pat Allen used her personal experience to show us how emotion connects with art. Imagination is the most important element for us. However, our imagination usually ties up with our experience. As the author mention “ we each have a lifetime of patterns and habits of thought embedded there, base on past experiences (18).” Hence, Pat Allen teaches us try to use our awareness and create the imagination on the surroundings. Then we need to practice this awareness and we can release our limitation of imagine. My imagination was limited when I was in junior high school. Pat Allen taking about the “Knowing Memory” in this book. She used painting pictures to record her own memory. In this way, she not only recorded her childhood, but also created the artwork. “We enter a world created by others, but we can also create and re-create our world thought art making (24).” For example, when I was in elementary school, we are require to finish a journal everyday.” However, I didn’t like this way to keep track of my memory. On the contrary, I used drawing pictures to record my favorite or not favorite memory. I enjoyed and kept record my daily life until twelve years old. I still preserve these stories on my home.
