All of us lied in some point in our lives, and those lies had specific purpose; maybe to achieve certain benefits or to avoid punishment. If anyone would say “I don’t lie” that is the lie by default. In the podcast “Deception” by RadioLab , the authors mentioned self-deception and the pathological deception. While self-deception can be harmful (it can be positive too, as we learned in the podcast), in my opinion pathological deception is the worst type of falsehood because it doesn’t have specific goal or any obvious benefit, and often it is harmful for perpetrator as well as for everyone around him or her.
