Introduction
When there is a necro-inflammation occurring in the liver for a period exceeding six months, a disease known as Chronic Viral Hepatitis (CVH) is said to have occurred. This disease is common and affects more than 500 million people worldwide (World Health Organization [WHO], 2012 p. 10). In CVH, the viruses seemingly live and continue to reproduce in the liver for years or even decades until the patients’ immune system is rendered incapable of getting rid of the virus. Ultimately, the virus results in a chronic inflammation of the liver and potentially; cirrhosis, liver failure or hepatocellular cancer. It is also the principle cause for liver transplant in adults worldwide (Rehermann, B. (2013). According to Grossman & Porth (2014), three hepatotropic viruses are responsible for chronic hepatitis; hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and hepatitis delta (HDV).
