For a successful civil case against the nurses caring for Shona Hookey the plaintiff will be required to prove all the elements in the case. The plaintiff will be required to prove a breach of care, that duty of care was owed, unacceptable conduct and harm or loss that was foreseeable (Forrester, K., & Griffiths, D., 2010). A breach of duty did occur, and duty of care was owed to Shona Hookey as the patient was in a vulnerable position due to the patient’s disabilities. These events occurred when the RN Jordan accepted legal responsibility of the Shona Hookey following handover yet following initial assessment no other nursing care was provided for up to two hours.
