The purpose of the National Patient Safety Goals is to improve patient safety. The goals focus on problems in health care safety and how to solve them. Therefore, as a member of the quality improvement staff in the Hospital area, I am going to design a plan that everyone will follow and contribute into making sure this particular goal is met. My main areas of focus on this plan are to improve the accuracy of patient identification, the effectiveness of communication among caregivers and last but not least, the safety of using medications.

Errors in administering medication remain dominant in many facilities nationwide. These mistakes are often challenging to track due to the failures of it being reported immediately when they occur. The results are often reflective of systems and not national trends. To better this area, it is crucial to have not just staff in charge of medical supply, but everyone to be alert and make sure that each and every medication, medication containers and other medical supplies are all labeled. This is very important among any healthcare setting actually, because any medications or other solutions which are unidentifiable could result in not only errors, but sometimes tragic outcomes.
