This selfish, pompous attitude ultimately lead to a revolt from the plebeians. The plebeians were left after the wars in poverty and great distress. Since most of the plebeians lived in the countryside, these areas where the most affected from the war, a majority of these properties were left in ruins. The plebeians resort was having to borrow money from the patricians. A debtor in these days was difficult and if one couldn’t pay a debt, he would be thrown in the dungeon or made a slave to the creditor. The idea was the keep the poor in poverty and make it not easy to escape. One other cause to maintain the plebeians poverty was the unfair distribution of land after the wars. The land was distributed more in favor to the patricians since they and total control in the government. This land belong to all Romans and the plebeians were deprived of what they rightly fought for alongside the patricians during war. These conditions ultimately lead the plebeians to a revolt and secession from the patrician controlled republic.
