Patsy Mink was born on December 6th 1927 in Paia, Hawaii. She was one of two children. After graduating high school in 1944, she went to Wilson College and the University of Nebraska, but left after facing discrimination. She then decided to finish her studies in Honolulu at the University of Hawaii in hopes of becoming a doctor. Once she graduated she tried applying for pre-med jobs but was denied each so she decided to work to become a lawyer instead.
Patsy Mink was the first woman of color and Asian American to be elected to Congress and the first female licensed attorney. When running for congress, she originally lost the first time but won the second time in 1964. She served six consecutive terms in the House of Representatives and continued
