Author Patti Callahan Henry is a New York Times Bestseller, and her work has been translated into many other languages. Before writing full time, she worked as a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist, a job she had before she became pregnant with her first child.

She grew up in Philadelphia as a Presbyterian minister's daughter, and learned from a young age the value that storytelling has. When she was twelve, her family moved to southern Florida. Years later, she is married to a great guy and is the mom to a teenage son. She finds out that a friend from her childhood is getting blamed for the fire. She goes back to South Carolina Low Country and gathers all the courage to make the choice that could destroy her good life, the good standing her family has, the contented marriage she has, and all that she has worked very hard to keep safe.
