According to the National Center for PTSD, “traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the function of the brain,” (National Center for PTSD, n.d.). With the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) V, brain injury and its neuropsychiatric sequelae are considered in detail.
These types of injuries have been prevalent in the wars of Iraq and Afghanistan harming more than 200,000 soldiers. In a mild diagnosis of TBI, cognitive deficits are not a problem with independence in everyday life.
