Will Peak Oil force Green Energy upon us? Globally, we consume 85 million barrels of oil in a day, more than what we produced. Marion King Hubbert, a geologist, came up with a theory concerning oil extraction rates. Hubbert’s theory states that eventually, oil extraction rates will reach a maximum and begin to decline. After a seemingly endless debate about the Peak Oil theory, the question is no longer whether the theory is accurate, but rather, when it will happen. The first question on everybody’s mind, is, what will we do after Peak Oil? Oil provides us with more than 40% of our daily energy use. We use it for petroleum, cosmetics, fabrics, food and other essential items for our daily life. A highly suggested alternative to oil is green …show more content…
“It is interesting to note that the world’s biggest oil producer, Saudi Armaco, is now installing solar (power stations) at many of its installations”. The fact that even oil companies recognize the need for alternate sources of energy is really thought provoking. “It will prove necessary to prioritize and make sacrifices in alternate energy development with the goal of ending reliance on petroleum as quickly as possible”. “By 2050, one-third of the world’s energy will need to come from solar, wind and other renewable sources. Who says? British Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell, two of the world’s largest companies”. Peak oil is causing people to become aware of the requirement for alternate energy sources. The realization that we need to reduce our reliance on oil is impacting people now. Even producers of oil, who would like nothing more than their business working out, are making an effort to reduce the use of fossil fuels, and are focusing on greener energies. But, not every country is working like this, many countries are making no effort to reduce the carbon emissions they produce. It is important that they are made aware of the looming downfall humanity could face if they aren’t prepared for peak …show more content…
Due to modernization, out technologies and sciences have helped us create solutions and prevention methods for peak oil. Solar energy is a promising solution to peak oil, which would now be possible without the science and technology to convert that into usable energy. Most renewable energies required a mass of research and experiments. Science has helped us come up with ways to prevent peak oil, and find alternates to oil. On the other hand, science and technology have also been a cause for peak oil. Due to our need for new technologies and products, oil is being used more in factories and such. Technology is also the reason we are able to find oil in the firs place. Scientific and Technical Innovation have their advantages and disadvantages, it is just important to find the
