“To serve is beautiful, but only if it is done with joy and a whole heart and a free mind” -Pearl S. Buck. One must persist and take risks in life to be successful. Pearl S. Buck was a novelist from the 1900s, who dedicated her novels to Asians. Pearl also founded foundations and adoption agencies to help disadvantaged Asians. Buck was born in West Virginia in 1892, but lived most of her life in China (“Pearl S. Buck,” 2004). Pearl S. Buck wrote novels about the relations between Asians and Americans, and innovated ways to overcome conflicted Asians, and illuminated the world by establishing an adoption agency (“Pearl S. Buck,” 1998). Pearl S. Buck created manifold ways to bolster disadvantaged Asians. She wrote and published books, such as The Good Earth, Imperial Women, and Dragon Seed. Many of Buck’s novels and essays were published in the 1920s. Not only did she compose writings, but she also created a foundation and “Welcome House”. “Welcome House” was the first interracial adoption agency (“Brief Biography of Pearl S. Buck,” 2018). Pearl’s works were made using Thinking & Communicating with Clarity and Precision, so that people could understand what she meant. Predicaments, such as the Nanking Incident and the Boxer Uprising caused Pearl S. Buck to use persistence. During the Boxer Uprising, her family had to evacuate Shanghai. Another challenge Buck faced was that her first daughter, Carol had Phenylketonuria, which meant she was retarded. Soon after Pearl graduated college, her mother became ill and eventually died.
