When he was in custody, he refused to listen to the police. When he was tricked by an undercover officer, he admitted to the murders. Pedro was charged with over 110 murders. He said that he was responsible for around 200 more of the deaths/ murders in Peru and Colombia. On July 31, 1981, Lopez, who was around 33 years old at the time, was found guilty for the murders of 57 young girls. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison in Ambato. There, he was diagnosed as a sociopath. On August 31, 1994, Lopez was released from Garcia Moreno prison after 14 years, which was two years earlier, because of good behavior. He was transported to Colombia, but in 1995, he was announced crazy and put into a psychiatric facility. In February 1998, he was announced to be right-minded and was released under a $50 bail. There was another case of a murder in 2002, and reports say that Lopez may have had a possible connection to it. It is unknown if he is either dead or alive, or exactly where he could be
